Rich received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Georgia. Rich graduated from the UGA School of law in 1997 and was a member of the Joseph Henry Lumpkin Inn of Court and the Order of the Barristers.

Rich began with Hudson, Montgomery, Kalivoda and Connelly in 1995. In 1997, Rich was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia. He has been practicing law for 25 years and is a partner with the firm. Rich has been a litigator in multiple fields of the law. He has successfully tried numerous jury trials in the areas of personal injury (plaintiff and defense), criminal law (misdemeanor and felony), estate law and domestic relations. He has represented individuals in the State and Superior Courts throughout North Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the United States Northern and Middle District Courts. He is currently a member of the Western Circuit Bar Association (Past President) the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia, American Bar Association, and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. Previously Rich served on the Board of Directors and Executive Counsel of the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia.

Since 2016, Rich has served as the Chief Magistrate Judge of Oconee County. Rich has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and as a coach and Judge for the State Bar of Georgia Mock trial Program. He was an attorney coach on the 1999 Clarke Central High School team that won the National Championship. Rich is a graduate of the Athens-Clarke County Leadership Athens program and past president of the LEAD Athens Alumni program. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Athens.

Rich is married to Daley Connelly and has two children: Ansley and Ethan. Rich is a member of Emmanuel Episcopal church where he has served as Senior Warden, Vestry member, and is currently on the Finance and Endowment Committees.
